This genre of writing is becoming more popular in Australia with awards and conferences dedicated to promoting and fostering it.

Writing Tips from published children's authors
The most common type of writing submitted for Special Forever is literary writing—mainly poetry which shows a love and appreciation of the environments that make up the unique area known as the Murray–Darling Basin. In 2008 we would like the Special Forever book to also reflect the actions that students are engaged in to sustain and protect these environments.
